Burundi Call Out For Close Sector Ties With TCRA To Enhance Postal Services

The Burundi Posts Corporation is seeking to work and learn from Tanzania Posts Corporation and Tanzania Regulatory Authority (TCRA), a move that would help it improve its efficiency in service delivery.

This was revealed on 17sup>th/sup> November 2021 by the Director General for Burundi Posts Corporation Ms. Lea Ngabire, who led senior executives from the posts body to a training tour in Tanzania.

“While here at the Tanzania Communication Regulatory (TCRA) we have seen how tasks are conducted; we look up to maximised cooperation to see how our two countries can work together in promoting and developing the postal industry" noted Ngabire.

Ngabire was accompanied by a delegation from senior officials of the Burundi Post Office on a training visit. Among them include the head of the Burundi Post Office Information and Communication Technologies ICT) Mr. Nyayishimiye Olivier, and the head of mails and letters unit, Mr. Misirakuba Deo.

TCRA Director-General, Dr. Jabiri Bakari told the delegation that the authority recognizes the importance of communications at the regional level; he further insisted that TCRA was aware of the benefits to be accrued through cooperation by sister organisations in the East African Community (EAC) region.

"Our goal is to ensure that the telecommunications sector in Tanzania is managed securely; and in terms of posts services, TCRA has been cooperating with various regional and international institutions" he said, adding: "Tanzania has been at the forefront of ensuring that the telecommunications sector in Africa is strong and that's why it has given land for the Pan African Postal Union (PAPU) to build its head office in Arusha, which is to be completed mid next year."

At the same event TCRA’s Director of Industry Affairs Dr. Emmanuel Manasseh noted: "There is no way a modern economy can be built without involvement of the post services as the industry is important in terms of logistics and transmission of various information enabling to build a modern economy (digital economy)” insisted he.

"As we move into the digital economy, the post services are very important as it will enable us to achieve the goal of building digital economy and spark the growth of our people’s economies" he added.

Submitting a vote of thanks after concluding the visit the delegation expressed their sincere gratitude with the knowledge they had acquired after visiting TCRA and assured their host that they would apply what they learned in promoting growth of the Posts industry in Burundi.
