The landscape of the city of Arusha will soon be transformed upon the completion of the construction of the state-of-the-art skyscraper that is being built under the joint venture between the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) and the Pan-African Postal Union (PAPU). The construction of the new headquarters building christened “PAPU House” has so far reached 80 percent.

The Director General of TCRA, Dr Jabiri Bakari, who inspected the construction of the building while accompanied by members of the Authority’s Board of Directors and its Chairman, Dr. Jones Kilimbe, indicated that the construction is ongoing as planned whereas Dr. Kilimbe was particularly impressed by the sheer scale of the project and was pleased with the pace of the progress of the construction works.

Dr. Kilimbe congratulated the TCRA Management and engineering team on a job well done, and urged them to do their utmost best to complete the project as planned. Upon its completion, the building will house the Management and Administrative staff of the Union that represents all 45 member states of the Union.

The PAPU House ¾ which is owned in a 60:40 percent ratio by PAPU and TCRA respectively--will be Arusha’s tallest building, equally housing the TCRA regional office, business premises, conference rooms, training centers, shopping malls, banking facilities, and more.

The project has so far provided employment opportunities to local people and is expected to provide tourists and other people with modern facilities for acquiring multiple socio-economic services. The building's development began in January 2020 in Arusha's Sekei ward. The facility is being built as part of PAPU's strategy, which is to achieve financial independence in its daily operations rather than relying on even contributions from its members across the continent.

Pan African Postal Union (PAPU) is a specialized institution of the African Union. Its main objective is to coordinate all activities aimed at developing postal services on the African continent.
