Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan has inaugurated the Pan African Postal Union (PAPU) headquarters in Arusha, commending Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) for its work in supervising and funding the project on behalf of the government.

"Completion of this 17-story building is a result of close cooperation between Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) and Pan African Postal Union (PAPU). This is a partnership project funded by PAPU with 60% and TCRA representing our government with 40%," President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan stated. "I congratulate TCRA and PAPU for successfully completing this very significant project," added the President.

The state-of-the-art building is located in the city's Phillips area and covers an area of 22,421 square meters. It will house PAPU Headoffice, as well as TCRA zonal office, commercial space, restaurants, and a conference hall.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by government officials, representatives from UPU and PAPU, representatives from member countries, government officials and members of the public.

In her speech, President Hassan issued a challenge to PAPU, urging them to harness the potential of the facility to enhance capacity building, foster experience sharing, drive innovation, and revolutionize the performance of postal services within member countries.

She also expressed her gratitude to Arusha Gymkhana Club for generously providing a piece of land that facilitated expansion of the facility, enabling construction of an access road at the rear of the premises.

"The inauguration of PAPU headquarters represents a momentous achievement for the postal sector in Africa, signifying our government's steadfast dedication to propelling its growth. This event also serves as a significant catalyst for PAPU's mission to foster the advancement of postal services throughout the continent," remarked Mr. Chrysostom Pallangyo, a resident of Arusha who attended the inaugural ceremony. He further expressed his contentment with this remarkable investment in Arusha, noting that "the skyscraper has enhanced the beauty of our tourist-friendly city."
